Vinaceite

VinaceiteVinaceite stands in the westernmost area of the county. It shares the bank of the river Aguasvivas with the neighbouring Azaila, and both towns are linked by the county road CV-305. Vinaceite is 22 kilometres away from Híjar and 30 kilometres from Albalate del Arzobispo, the two county capitals.

With a population of 337 (according to the municipal register of September 2006), Vinaceite has traditionally been devoted to agriculture and farming. Today, cereals and olive trees are the main crops.

The town structure is typically Moorish. The most outstanding building in the city centre is the parish church of Saint John the Baptist, of baroque style and with a square plan, which was designed by the architect Agustín Sanz in the 18th century under the patronage of the Dukes of Híjar. In the outskirts of the town we find the hamlet of Cabezo de La Bovina, an Iberian settlement which has been declared a Historical and Artistic Site and which is thought to be part of the nearby Cabezo de Alcalá, in Azaila.
