The county of Bajo Martín consists of nine towns which are part of
Teruel’s historic Bajo Aragón: Albalate del Arzobispo, Azaila,
Castelnou, Híjar, Jatiel, La Puebla de Híjar, Samper de Calanda,
Urrea de Gaen and Vinaceite.
Six of the nine municipalities are located by the shore of the lower river Martín, the main artery of this land.
With these words we would like to let people know, from a number of different points of view (cultural, economic and geographic), about the past and the present of a land that has been inhabited for thousands of years and which has been modelled by the coming of many different cultures that have left such deeply rooted expressions as the local Easter celebrations.
